Above the display the Torch 9860 has the ear piece speaker and the proximity sensor. Under the display we find the typical BlackBerry control buttons combo: call keys, back and menu and the optical trackpad in the middle which is very helpful in menus. On the left side it has the microUSB port. On the right side it has the 3.5mm jack, the volume keys with a subtle mute button in between. The phone also has a dedicated camera button on the right side with half press to autofocus first. At the top it has only the power button which is almost invisible.
The 3.7 inches display has a resolution of 480 x 800 and a pixel density of 252ppi. It supports multitouch. The sun light legibility won’t be a problem thanks to the good brightness of the display. The touch response is good but it has no haptic feedback. The phone weighs 135 grams and measures 120 x 62 x 11.5mm.
On the inside the Torch 9860 is powered by a 1.2 GHz processor QC 8655. The phone has accelerometer, proximity and compass sensors. It has an internal storage of 4 GB and it can be extended up to 32 GB through a microSD card. The RAM amount has 768 Mb.
At connectivity it has HSDPA and HSUPA speeds up to 14.4 Mbps respectively 5.76 Mbps. Wi-Fi has b/g/n standards, Bluetooth is v2.1 with A2DP and the microUSB slot is v2.0.
The 5MP camera has autofocus and LED flash. It doesn’t have too many customizable settings. As features it has geo-tagging, scenes and face detection. The macro shots are quite good. The image quality is slightly above average on a 5MP camera. The details are good and the colors are pleasing. Contrast is fine but the noise level is too high.
With normal usage the Torch 9860 can pass the one day limit on battery life. It has a 1230 mAh battery and if you use the phone only for its main features (calls and SMS) it can reach up to two days with a single charge.
