On the left side the phone has the 3.5mm jack, the microUSB slot and a button assigned by default to voice-commands but you can change it with whatever you want. On the right side it has the volume keys and the camera shutter in two steps. Above the screen it has the status LED and the ear piece speaker. Under the screen we find the well-known Blackberry control buttons. The middle trackball was replaced with a touch sensitive trackpad. At the top of the phone we see the mute button and the lock key which are masked under the surface.
The display has good resolution for the 2.44 inches. It supports a pixel density of 246ppi and a resolution of 480 x 360 pixels. The image quality of the display is good. Its contrast and brightness are quite good and the high pixel density helps a lot. The sun light legibility is excellent; the colors are almost perfectly retained under direct sun light. The phone measures 109 x 60 x 14mm and weighs 122 grams.
The Bold 9700 has an average 3MP camera with autofocus and LED flash. It features geo-tagging and image stabilization. If you want more option you have to dig in the menu. The image details are decent and the noise level is average. Recorded video have VGA resolution
At connectivity it has the following: 2G EDGE speed up to 236 Kbps, 3G HSDPA speed up to 3.6 Mbps, Wi-Fi with b/g/n protocols and UMA, Bluetooth v2.1 with A2DP and a microUSB 2.0 slot. The browser uses HTML and works fine.
The phone uses the Blackberry OS v5.0 but it can be updated to v6.0. The OS powers the 624 MHz processor. The CPU is helped by 256 Mb of RAM memory. Internal memory has 256 Mb and it can be extended up to 16 GB through a microSD card. The phone has GPS with A-GPS support.
A 1500 mAh battery gives life to the Bold 9700. The battery life is somewhere around a week of moderate use which is very good.
