The HTC Smart is a new smartphone from HTC. It will be right if I say semi-smartphone because it has an unusual OS; it has the Brew Mobile OS with Sense UI. It is not a good choice to throw a new platform, almost unknown on the market. But the HTC is a veteran in phones so it can afford to take its risk. Check the main features of the phone:
- Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE support
- 3G with HSDPA 3.6 Mbps
- Brew Mobile software platform with HTC Sense UI and social networking integration
- 2.8″ resistive touchscreen of QVGA resolution
- 300 MHz processor, 256 MB RAM, 256 MB ROM
- 3.15 megapixel fixed-focus camera with LED flash
- Standard miniUSB port for charging and Mass Storage data transfers
- Stereo Bluetooth (A2DP)
- microSD card slot, up to 16GB support
- Standard 3.5mm audio jack
- Smart dialing
- Stereo FM radio with RDS
- Excellent loudspeaker performance

The HTC Smart is solid and compact and the rounded edges are making him friendly. Above the screen it has only the ear piece speaker and under the screen we can see four hardware buttons: two buttons for calls, one for menu/back and one small button for options. On the left side it has the volume rocker keys while on the right side we find the dedicated camera shutter. At the top it has a 3.5mm jack. The bottom features a microUSB slot, the mouthopiece and the lanyard eyelet.
The display has a 2.8 inches diagonal. It supports a resolution of 240 x 320 pixels and a pixel density of 143ppi. The sun light legibility is poor but the colors are good if you use the phone indoor. The display is resistive and it doesn’t have a stylus. You won’t need one because the display has good responsiveness and that’s why HTC didn’t equip the Smart with a stylus. The phone measures 104 x 55 x 12.8mm and weighs 108 grams.
The processor of the phone is powered by the Brew Mobile OS and it has 300 MHz it is helped by an amount of 256 Mb of RAM and 256 Mb of ROM. The CPU is below average but if you want a low budget smartphone with you can choose the HTC Smart.
At connectivity it has EDGE speed up to 236 Kbps, HSDPA up to 3.6 Mbps, Bluetooth v2.0 with A2DP and a microUSB 2.0 slot. Unfortunately it doesn’t have a Wi-Fi support. The browser runs a little slow on the 3G connection.
The 3.15 MP camera shoots VGA videos. It has LED flash and a resolution of 2049 x 1536 pixels. The colors are close enough to reality and the amount of details isn’t that bad. The pictures are underexposed in most of the time.
Fortunately the battery life is good. The phone has an 1100 mAh battery which can keep it in standby for 600 hours and in talk time for 7 hours and a half.
