Samsung Galaxy Ace 2 review

Samsung Galaxy Ace 2

The Samsung Galaxy Ace 2 has been launched almost in the same time as the Galaxy S3 and that’s why it hasn’t been so publicized because Samsung focused on launching the Galaxy S3 at that time. the Ace2 dares to have high aspirations than the class to which it belongs. I think it fits well in the mid-range class.

The Ace2 is all made from plastic but it has a nice design and it doesn’t give you the sensation of a cheap phone. It has 118×62.3×10.6mm and weighs 120g. At this dimensions it fits well in hand and feels light and comfortable. The microSD slot is on the left side of the phone so you don’t have to remove the back panel or the battery to insert an SD card.

One of the main advantages that the Ace2 has is the display quality. Its type is PLS capacitive with a 3.8 inches diagonal, a 480×800 pixels resolution and a pixel density of 246 ppi. Its only minus is that it doesn’t have a light sensor for ambient light. But it has very good viewing angles and color reproduction and luminosity are good too and supports multitouch.

The 5MP camera is amazing. The LED flash is in phase with the camera so photos are good even in low light conditions. The quality of photos is very good and the 720p videos, which the Ace2 can record, have good quality too. The Camera interface is the stock Gingerbread one, but Samsung added some extra features like shooting mode( smile shutter, motion, shutter, panorama), scenes(portrait, landscape, sport, night, interior) and exposure correction. Autofocus is a bit slow in low light conditions. The camera from the Galaxy Ace 2 is probably the best 5MP camera on a smartphone, the photos quality is above average.

If the Ace 2 came with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich it was great but it comes with Android 2.3.6 gingerbread. Gingerbread is fully optimized and customized with TouchWiz 4.0 UI. The phone runs smooth and without lag or bugs. Sliding a finger to the right over a phone contact will make a call and sliding to the left will send a message. You can make screenshots by holding at the same time the power button and homescreen button.

The Ace2 has an internal memory of 4GB and 768MB of RAM. The chipset is NovaThor U8500 with a dual core processor clocked at 800MHz. the GPU is one of the best: Mali-400MP. Good hardware configuration at a lower price than its competitors.

At connectivity it has optional NFC. Wi-Fi supports b/g/n protocols, DLNA, Wi-Fi direct and Wi-Fi Hotspot. 3G has HSDPA speed up to 14.4 Mbps. Bluetooth is v3.0 with A2DP and we have a microUSB 2.0 port too.

The NovaThor U8500 chipset is normally set at 1GHz but Samsung underclocked it at 800MHz to consume less energy. The Galaxy Ace 2 can resist more than 2 days of normal use: calls, music, videos, games, Facebook, take photos, browse the internet and all of this with 100% luminosity. It’s a very good smartphone for everyday use with a 1500 mAh battery.

If you search for a good price-quality smartphone the Samsung Galaxy Ace2 is the one for you. The 3.8 inches screen, good hardware configuration, good battery life for everyday use, nice browsing experience are the advantages of a mid-range smartphone with a good price.
