LG Optimus 2X, 2X power

LG Optimus 2X

The LG Optimus 2X was launched in February 2011 and it was the first dual core smartphone. After one year Samsung launched the Galaxy S2 as a direct competitor of the Optimus 2X. Some users are saying that the Optimus 2X is better than the Galaxy S2 even if it doesn’t’ have 1GB of RAM; they say that its hardware is over the Galaxy S2.

Let’s take it from the beginning step by step. LG announced the Optimus 2X in January 2011 at CES and after one month they launched it as the first dual core phone, with an Nvidia hardware, extremely high-performance on paper and a high energy consumer.

Well, let’s see what’s inside the Optimus 2X. It has a dual core ARM Cortex-A9 processor clocked at 1GHz and based on the architecture of an Nvidia Tegra 2 chipset plus 512Mb of RAM. The GPU is also made by Nvidia and its ULP GeForce. If we consider that all the hardware parts are made by Nvidia we can believe its true that the Optimus 2X is better than the Galaxy S2. It has an internal memory of 8GB and a microSD card up to 32 GB is supported. The Optimus 2X has gyro, accelerometer, compass and proximity sensors.

It comes out of the box with Android OS 2.2 Froyo but it can now be upgraded to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Optimus UI and TouchWiz resemble each other and they are not too beautiful. I, personally, don’t like this user interfaces; I would better prefer a launcher from Play Store.

The Optimus 2X comes with an IPS LCD display having a diagonal of 4.0 inches. Its resolution have 480×800 pixels and the pixel density has 233ppi. The display is protected by a Gorilla Glass screen. It’ very bright and has very good legibility in direct sunlight (better than a SuperAmoled) and the viewing angles are very high with good image reproduction.

Its dimensions are average but it could be slimmer. It has 123.9x63x10.9mm and weighs 139g. The Optimus 2X connectivity is average too. In 3G mode it has a download speed of 7.2 Mbps HSDPA and an upload speed of 5.76 Mbps HSUPA.  Wi-Fi supports Hotspot, b/g/n protocols and DLNA. Bluetooth is v2.1 with A2DP and microUSB slot is v2.0. The browser runs flawlessly and has Adobe flash support.

The 8MP camera is great, it makes good photos. Only video recording has a little flicker sometimes even if the resolution is set at 720p at 30 fps or 1080p at 24 fps. Photo camera has LED flash and autofocus and as main features it has geo-tagging, face and smile detection, touch focus and image stabilization. The video call front camera has 1.3MP.

The Optimus 2X has a 1500 mAh battery which can keep the phone on for about 1 day. After a normal use, browse on both 3G and Wi-Fi, 30 minutes calls, listen some music, watch a couple of videos etc, you must charge it every night. But if you use it wisely you could get a few days out of it.

The LG Optimus 2X can be used by anyone but it’s hunted by those who want power and many resources, tech enthusiasts and Android fans. The Optimus 2X excel in browsing, playing videos and games and taking good quality photos. The 8MP camera has a goos software management.
