The Samsung Galaxy S3 appeared in May this year and it was the most expected phone of the year.
Many people were excited to see the new comer from the Galaxy S family, but for some people the S3 was below their expectations. I say this because there are many people who don’t like the blue version of this phone because the back panel wants to look like polished metal, but it’s from plastic and it is very thin. Others don’t like the Galaxy S3 because it’s too big for a phone. But if we look at its hardware this phone is a bombshell. As it did with the other two phones from the Galaxy S family, Samsung equipped the Galaxy S3 with the most powerful hardware combination encountered so far.
It has the Exynos 4412 Quad chipset and a quad core CPU Cortex-A9 at 1.4MHz. As on Galaxy s2 we have again the Mali-400MP GPU. With this hardware Galaxy S3 was announced the best phone oh 2012. It has 16/32/64GB internal memory with 1GB RAM and 2GB ROM. You can attach a microSD card up to 64 GB.
The display is SuperAmoled, it has 4.8 inches (yes is too big for a phone, it fits your pocket if your are skinny) which supports a resolution of 720×1280 pixels and 302ppi pixel density. So we have here a HD display. The Galaxy S3 is the first phone whose display is protected by Gorilla Glass 2 screen. TouchWiz UI is very different from the last version we’ve seen, and it’s different in a pleasant way.
Let’s mention what connectivity features. It has 21Mbps download speed and 5.76 Mbps upload speed in 3G mode, Wi-Fi with a/b/g/n protocols, DLNA, Wi-Fi Direct, Wi-Fi Hotspot and tethering. Bluetooth is version 4.0 with A2DP and EDR. USB connection is made by a microUSB v2.0 slot.
The Galaxy S3 has an 8mp camera and until now we don’t know for sure if it’s better than the one from the HTC One X or not. It has autofocus, touch focus, geo-tagging, simultaneous HD video and image recording, face and smile detection, image stabilization and LED flash. It can record HD videos at 1080p and 30fps. S3 also has 2mp front camera which is recording at 720p and can be used as a mirror too due to its quality and display clarity.
From factory it’s powered by Android OS 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich but it just received the new Android 4.1 Jelly Bean which makes the S3 even smoother.
The Galaxy S3 is the first android device which can make what the iPhone does with its Siri. The Galaxy S3 has S-Voice natural language commands and dictation and it handles very well. Smart Stay eye tracking is also a nice feature; the front camera is turned on in background and follows your eyes gestures and when you close your eyes the phone turns off the display. You can share files up to 1GB between two Galaxy S3 phones by turning on the S-Beam function which make the transfer very fast and all you have to do is to select the file and touch phones together. You also have 50 GB storage on Dropbox.
About the battery is not much to say. It has 2100 mAh; it may be even bigger because this one is not enough for the 4.8 inches display. It can manage the one day limit but would be better to charge it at night.
If you want to be in step with technology you can choose the Samsung Galaxy S3 which is the top smartphone until now.
